The Crucible by Arthur Miller |
We will be travelling back to 1692 this six weeks experiencing the Salem Witch Trials through Arthur Miller's famous play. The Crucible takes place in and around Salem, MA, a small town founded by a group of Christians called Puritans. The Puritans had fled England for North America to establish a religious community. The Puritan way of life was rigid and strict causing a climate of guilt and blame. This climate pervaded the town of Salem and Salem village, where, in the winter of 1691-1692, several teenage girls began behaving strangely. Many people in the community suspected that the girls were victims of witchcraft. These events and the trials that followed form the basis for Miller's play The Crucible.
