o Register to take the appropriate college entrance exam. In order to be admitted to a university or 4 year college, students must take the ACT or SAT.
o Apply for admission to the college(s) of your choice.
o Obtain appropriate applications for admission or apply online. For Texas colleges there is a common application available in the counselors’ office or students can use the online site www.applytexas.org.
o Make a campus visit or attend a college fair.
o Read over all scholarship bulletins and apply if you meet eligibility requirements. Share this information with parents and/or guardians.

o Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as soon as possible after January 1.
o Apply for all scholarships and financial aid offered by your prospective college. Contact the financial aid office to be certain you not miss any opportunity.
o Apply for local scholarships (those offered only to KHS students). Seniors will get information at a meeting in January.
o Investigate housing options and deadlines. Some may require an application and deposit.

o Register for THEA (Texas Higher Education Assessment), if required.
o Finalize your decision and make certain to meet all deadlines.
o Complete request for final transcript to be sent to your college choice.
